Brian Costello

Brian Costello is an award-winning human-centered designer and Founder of Brian Costello Design LLC, a consultancy specializing in medical device and combination product development. He brings 20 years of professional experience, including 17+ years dedicated to designing drug delivery and medical devices.

 

Brian has led industrial design, user research, and human-centered product development initiatives across numerous medical device and combination product programs, supporting development from early concept through commercialization. His work integrates industrial design, user research, human factors, packaging and labeling development, and instructional design to create intuitive, scalable product experiences, helping teams navigate the interconnected decisions that shape successful combination products.

 

Prior to founding Brian Costello Design, Brian spent over a decade at West Pharmaceutical Services, where he led design and user experience initiatives supporting early-stage injection and drug delivery platforms. Working within an innovation-focused development environment, he helped define user experiences for emerging delivery technologies, new product concepts, and novel device interactions while contributing to the establishment of human-centered design practices across global development teams.

 

His experience spans injectable, intravitreal, nasal, inhalation, oral, and topical delivery systems, including auto-injectors, wearable injectors, syringe safety devices, and reconstitution platforms. Brian has contributed to multiple commercialized products, numerous development programs, and more than 27 issued utility and design patents.
