Rishi Dua
Senior Director, Combination Device Design & Engineering
Bio:
Rishi Dua is Senior Director of Device Design & Engineering at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, where he serves as the Global Lead overseeing engineering strategy for the company’s combination product portfolio. At Vertex since 2020, Rishi has built and now leads a multi-disciplinary engineering organization to advance Vertex’s biologic/device combination platform from concept through clinical evaluation and manufacturing scale-up.
With over 20 years of experience across the medical device, biotech, and pharmaceutical industries — spanning both the US and international markets — Rishi brings deep expertise in navigating the critical build-versus-partner decisions that define how combination products are developed and manufactured. His experience encompasses the full spectrum of internalization: from standing up GMP manufacturing infrastructure, custom equipment design & fabrication, and process validation, to technology transfer and CMO identification and management — giving him a firsthand, nuanced perspective on when and how to draw those strategic boundaries.
Prior to Vertex, Rishi held engineering leadership roles at Anika Therapeutics, LifeCell (now AbbVie), and AngioDynamics, where he consistently navigated the tradeoffs between internal capability development and external partnering across diverse technology platforms, including biomaterials, tissue engineering, and drug-device combinations — bringing a perspective shaped by experience across both domestic and global development and manufacturing ecosystems.
Rishi holds an MS in Materials Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and a BE from the National Institute of Technology, India.
