Vice President, Center Head
Bio:
Dr. Sungwon Kim received his bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology from Seoul National University in 1997 and earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology in 2004. From 2001, during his doctoral studies, he had the opportunity to conduct research as a visiting scholar in Professor Sung Wan Kim's lab at the University of Utah for about two years. After graduation, he underwent consecutive postdoctoral training in Dr. Ick Chan Kwon’s lab at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology and in Professor Kinam Park’s lab at Purdue University. He joined LG Chem (formerly LG Life Sciences) in 2011 and served as the team leader of the formulation team in the CMC Research Center. Since 2025, he has been working as the head of the DDS Research Center at Peptron Osong Bio Park. Based on his academic career in the fields of biomaterials, drug delivery, and biomedical engineering, he has gained expertise in the pharmaceutical industry not only in the preformulation of small molecule drugs but also in the development of various dosage forms such as oral, parenteral, and topical formulations. He has participated in the research of dozens of new chemical entities and has led the development of complex formulations such as fixed-dose combinations and microspheres. Dr. Kim, who has 45 publications, 8 book chapters, and more than 30 registered patents, is currently working on the development of microsphere-based long-acting injectables and new peptide drugs at Peptron.
