Head of Formulation and Process Development

Chiesi Group

Bio:

Tomaso Guidi is Head of Formulation & Process Development at Chiesi Farmaceutici, where he leads a team focused on the development of advanced drug delivery systems across inhalation, oral, and biologics platforms. His core expertise lies in respiratory drug delivery, with a strong focus on inhalation and combination products integrating formulation and device design.

He has extensive experience in pharmaceutical R&D, spanning early-stage formulation through clinical development and lifecycle management. Throughout his career, he has contributed to the development of multiple new chemical entities (NCEs), supporting programs from formulation through First-in-Human (FIH) and into late-stage development, including Phase III inhalation products, as well as global (geo) expansion of commercial medicines.

Tomaso has significant experience in combination products, including lifecycle management and development of major respiratory therapies such as Foster and Trimbow in both DPI and pMDI formats. His work has focused on combination products not only as multi-API systems, but also as fully integrated drug-device products, requiring tight alignment between formulation, device engineering, and clinical performance. This has provided him with a strong perspective on the co-development of complex drug-device systems and the associated regulatory challenges.

His expertise includes complex inhalation products, enabling technologies for poorly soluble compounds, and the development of co-formulation and combination product strategies. In the field of inhaled biologics, he actively contributes to IPAC-RS initiatives, supporting the advancement of scientific and regulatory frameworks for next-generation therapies.
