Beyond Conventional Injection: Lessons from Microneedle Drug Delivery
Session details:
The continued rise of GLP-1 and other metabolic therapies is driving renewed interest in alternatives to conventional subcutaneous delivery, from ingestible devices to nasal technologies.
But these approaches bring additional challenges for development and commercialisation: the interplay of drug, device and tissue; new usability risks; and the need to scale novel manufacturing processes in parallel with clinical development.
Drawing on TTP's experience developing microneedle delivery systems, we share a risk-based approach to navigating these challenges. By first understanding the fundamental parameters and sensitivities governing delivery, we explore how delivery and scalability risks can be tackled independently, and progressively integrated through clinical development to avoid compounding risk.
We conclude by considering how this framework can be applied across other alternative delivery approaches, despite very different delivery physics and biological interfaces.
