Session details:
Drug delivery is becoming increasingly targeted; this is predominantly done at a chemical level where molecules are expertly crafted to express in the target tissue. However, despite significant advances and the emergence of novel modalities (ADCs, VV, LNPs etc.) there are formulations and indications where delivering systemic delivery is simply not possible and there is a need to deliver the drug directly to the target tissue either from an efficacy or safety perspective.
This presentation shares insights from real-world case studies where innovative device development enabled the successful, safe and repeatable delivery to the target tissue. The presentation will cover the following key areas:
-
Access – considerations around how to access the target tissue
-
Delivery – the formulation and delivery system are intrinsically linked and need to be considered in parallel to ensure success
-
Optimising distribution – understanding and optimising distribution within the target tissue while minimising the risk of systemic exposure
-
Confirmation – using imaging or data capture, to provide feedback during delivery
The presentation aims to demonstrate that the technical development required to enable the delivery of a drug directly to the target tissue shouldn't be a barrier and when done strategically and effectively can deliver transformative care to patients.
