Will Robotics Become the Next Frontier in Drug Delivery?

Session details:

Drug delivery has traditionally focused on the therapy itself like the molecule, formulation, carrier and targeting mechanism. But as robotics, imaging, navigation and AI continue to advance, a different approach to delivery is possible. What if the next leap in drug delivery comes from improving how we reach the target, not just how the therapy reaches it? This becomes increasingly important as cell therapies, gene therapies, localized oncology treatments and other advanced modalities become more common. The inclusion of robotic assisted delivery could improve precision, reduce systemic exposure and help enable therapies that are difficult to deliver through conventional delivery techniques. The opportunity is exciting, but these systems also bring challenges that are not typically encountered with traditional drug delivery devices.

This presentation explores how robotics will become a new frontier in drug delivery. It will discuss practical considerations including reliability, controllability, sterilization and reprocessing, software integration, manufacturing, economics and regulatory expectations. Drawing on lessons learned from the medical robotics industry, we'll discuss what it will take to successfully develop and commercialize the next generation of precision delivery platforms.
