Hovione

Bio:

Eunice Costa joined Hovione in 2011 and currently leads internal technology development programs in Biologics, Complex Injectables, and Respiratory Drug Delivery. As Program Director, she oversees a portfolio focused on advancing innovative technology platforms spanning novel materials, drug product formulations, manufacturing processes, and medical device design, enabling pharmaceutical partners to bring differentiated drug products to market.

Throughout her career at Hovione, Eunice has held several leadership positions in R&D, supporting pharmaceutical companies across a wide range of CMC development programs in biologics, oral and respiratory drug products. Her work has focused on formulation and process design, with particular expertise in particle engineering, spray drying, biologic stabilization, and advanced drug delivery systems. More recently, she has been involved in developing enabling technologies for high-concentration subcutaneous biologics, including proprietary synthetic sugar excipients and aseptic spray-dried suspension platforms.

Eunice has collaborated extensively with academic and industrial partners through multiple research consortia and has supervised numerous PhD and MSc students. Prior to joining Hovione, she held research positions at Genentech, TNO, and several academic institutions, working in formulation development, engineering sciences, and physiology.

She holds a PhD in Bioengineering Systems from the MIT-Portugal Program, where her research focused on polymer synthesis and processing for tissue engineering applications.
